Jean-Michel Trauscht — Art Director & Illustrator

Jean-Michel Trauscht is an art director and illustrator working across animation feature films and book publishing. In cinema, he has contributed as visual development artist and matte painter on animated features including The Inseparables, Richard the Stork, I Kill Giants, Another Day of Life, and Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart, building environments and atmospheres that shape the visual identity of a film from early concept through final shot.

As an illustrator, he creates cover art for international publishing houses, with recent work including covers for George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood, Philip Pullman’s The Book of Dust, and Liu Cixin’s The Wandering Earth, published by Suma (Companhia das Letras) in Brazil, as well as editorial illustrations for magazines including Superinteressante and Monet.

His work moves between the atmospheric, narrative language of matte painting and the character-driven storytelling of book illustration — two disciplines that share a common goal: building a world the viewer wants to step into.

Based in Belgium, available for cover art, concept art, and illustration commissions.
